Tooth whitening in Chapel Dental is one of our most popular treatments and we guarantee results.

Teeth are whitened by the use of a gel concentrate placed in trays worn over your teeth, usually every night, over 2-3 weeks. The gel acts on the tooth surface, removing surface staining and blemishes, and working internally within the tooth itself, to brighten their shade overall.

At Chapel Dental, we can offer you Boutique Whitening – A professional home-whitening system that will brighten your teeth steadily and reliably by at least 3 shades on industry-recommended shade guides. It requires the use of custom-made mouth trays and whitening gel worn every night, or for about 6 hours in the day, for 2-3 weeks.

Frequently asked questions

1. Can I have tooth whitening even if I have fillings, or a crown, on my front teeth?

The whitening gel will only whiten natural teeth. If you do have a filling or crown on a front tooth, it may need to be replaced after treatment to match the new colour of your teeth. Your dentist can discuss this with you at the consult appointment.

2. Is this available on the NHS?

No, as it is classified as a cosmetic treatment, it is not available on the NHS.

3. How long does it last?

It can last for as long as you want it to if you maintain regular top-up treatments. You will keep the trays that have been made just for you even after treatment and we recommend that you purchase some gel from your dentist, and wear it in the trays 1-2 times a year to help them maintain their brightness indefinitely.

4. Is it safe?

Yes – but only if you have it done at the dentist. Shop-bought kits are usually too weak to whiten teeth much, and if you decide to buy any whitening gel over the internet, then it’s very likely it’s not legally marked as safe for use. It may contain chemicals that will damage your teeth.

5. Are there any side effects?

Some patients suffer from sensitivity while whitening their teeth. We can offer de-sensitising treatments to reduce this, and it stops after you have completed your whitening. We also recommend using sensitive toothpaste alongside your treatment.

Have been coming to this dentists for many, many years. Usually just regular checkups. Last week had to attend for my teenager to have a tooth extraction and they were very nervous indeed. I promised I would write a review sometime ago; sorry for the delay, Alphonso! He completed the fitting of an implant earlier this year and the result is terrific. Alphonso took such care - yes, it's a long process, but each step was meticulously explained and performed. He also fitted me with a new plate which was, surprisingly (to me, at least), rather a complex process. Again, performed with kindness and patience and I continue to be very happy with the result.Claire is retiring! I'm sorry because, although I wasn't her patient for very long, she's been fantastic. Gentle, unflappable, smiley, kind and with a great love of animals. I shall miss her.Chapel Dental is a lovely building in a great location with lots of parking. The reception area is bright, and reception staff never less than helpful and wise and the beautiful chairs are made by Claire's husband! (I hope she doesn't take them when she retires at the end of November.)

My partner rang the practice today to notify your staff , that our 6 year old child has woken with a really snotty nose and a cough.We asked if we should still bring her to the appointment , the response to the question was to notify us that we now have a bad mark against our child and if it happens again we will be struck off from the practice. We gave as much notice as physically possible and rang first thing in the morning but they need 48hrs notice (which was impossible considering she woke up with the symptoms on the day of the appointment) We were only being considerate to your employees and customers.I only Wish the same consideration was shown towards my child.The issue has since been rectified, which I am very thankful for … however I believe the 48hr cancellation notice policy should not apply to children.

Superb value for money. I’m an NHS patient at Chapel but I recently had some private treatment for something cosmetic. I am very pleased with the result and could have easily paid a lot more for the same outcome elsewhere. The only reason why not 5 stars is that I felt like the treatment could have been explained to me more thoroughly. I had to ask lots of questions during the consultation. As such, I felt a bit nervous going into my procedure when I had no reason to be.
